The Place You’re used to is NOT the Place You Belong

The Place You’re used to is NOT the Place You Belong

I am a woman who comes from humble beginnings. I grew up in the projects of Detroit. Elements of lower-income living were a part of my everyday reality. I was accustomed to food stamps, soup kitchens and thrift store shopping sprees. These examples should make it crystal clear that I did not grow up privileged, with a silver spoon in my mouth. Yet while I always knew I wasn’t privileged, growing up the way I did was a privilege that I wouldn’t change for all the money in the world. Do you want to know why? It’s because, in the midst of all that, I was raised to not just believe but know, that just because I’m in it doesn’t mean I’m of it. I was schooled about the world outside my neighborhood. Then I was told about the world beyond my city, my state, and even farther beyond the humble beginnings I emerged from. I learned I could be and do whatever I wanted with hard work and a sound mind. The same is true for you if you jump-start your boogie in time.

Who said we have to satisfied with our circumstance? We do not. Dreams are the preview of life’s coming attractions so satisfaction lies in the pursuit of your dreams. That said, if you are used to being strapped for cash, start that small business to change that. If you are used to that dead-end job, go back to school and get some education to get a better job. If you are used to being overweight, get yourself on a workout regimen and healthy eating plan to work on transforming in the BETTER version of you! Simply put you deserve better than where you are now, no matter where you are now! Sometimes people think we belong where we are, but that simply is not true. If it were aspirations and ambition would not exist. There would be no need for them. We are supposed to strive so we can thrive and never be contently satisfied. Just as delaying progress is wrong, most times where you are used to is simply not where you belong.
