Detroit, MI — A tragic drive-by shooting on the evening of July 27th has left one child dead on Detroit’s East Side. According to police reports, the incident took place near Anglin Street, close to Stender, around 8:30 p.m.
Authorities say the suspects, believed to be occupants of a red Jeep, were involved in a chaotic exchange of gunfire with another vehicle, described as a dark-colored or black sedan. During the exchange, an innocent six-year-old boy was struck by a stray bullet that traveled from a down the block, striking the 6yr old. The child was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. At this time, no other injuries have been reported, and the 6-year-old boy is believed to be the only casualty in the shooting.
Detroit Police Department (DPD) officials arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting. The department has stated that they are actively investigating the case and are working to identify and apprehend the suspects.
In a press conference held by the DPD shortly after the incident, Chief Todd Bettison promised that those responsible for this violent act would be brought to justice. “We are committed to ensuring that those involved in this senseless violence are held accountable,” a police spokesperson said. “We urge anyone with information to come forward to help us solve this tragic case.”
