Once again, I was on my quest to find the best eats in Detroit and I was contacted by Indy, a very sweet and humble sister. She reached out to me via Facebook and offered me the opportunity to review Indy’s Eats and Treats, her catering business specializing in a wide range of food, from breakfast dishes to soul food. I decided to visit her on a Tuesday, which happened to be taco day. She invited me to try her famous fried tacos, a unique concept that intrigued me.
When I entered the store, I noticed that Indy was in the process of cleaning the kitchen. She was in between preparing meals that were cooked to order. Even before starting with the food, I appreciated that she took the time to ensure her kitchen area and utensils were clean before making my tacos. She had a selection of beef, chicken, shrimp, and steak tacos. I opted for one beef taco and one steak taco. Since I’m not a fan of seafood, I also grabbed a shrimp taco for my mother to try alongside her beef taco.
The tacos were generously filled with beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded cheese, Romano cheese (top-notch!), sour cream, and a delectable secret sauce. The taco shell itself was light, soft, and fluffy, with a slight crunch on the outside. It was perfectly sturdy to hold all the contents together while delivering a concert of flavors with each bite.
Within seconds, I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to be doing a food review. I looked down and realized I had devoured the entire beef taco without even touching the steak taco yet. I was already so full and satisfied that I didn’t feel the need to try the steak taco just yet. Meanwhile, my mother decided to bite into the shrimp taco and quickly concluded that she wasn’t a fan of shrimp in tacos (LOL). However, she took a bite of the beef taco and shared the same appreciation as me. She devoured it without even pausing for breath.
Miss Indy clearly knows what she’s doing when it comes to these tacos. As an added bonus, she generously provided me with two extra plates of soul food, including meatloaf, turkey legs, macaroni, cabbage, greens, and cornbread. I’ll share my thoughts on that in another review. Overall, I would give Miss Indy’s fried tacos a strong rating of eight and a half out of ten. The only minor downside was that the tacos are so packed with ingredients that it’s hard not to make a mess while eating. Nonetheless, I would definitely be returning for more. I’m particularly interested in trying her soul food dishes and breakfast options. Oh, and I’ll make sure to update you all on how the steak taco tastes when I dig into it!
