Car Accident on Detroit’s East Side: Charger Runs Stop Sign, Collides with SUV

Detroit, MI – October 19, 2024 – A serious car accident occurred yesterday at the intersection of Gunston and St. Patrick streets on Detroit’s East Side, resulting in multiple injuries. Witnesses report that a black Dodge Charger ran a stop sign while heading eastbound on St. Patrick at a high rate of speed. The Charger crashed into a Chevrolet SUV that was traveling southbound on Gunston.

The force of the collision was significant, pushing the Chevy SUV onto the hood of the Charger. Both vehicles spun out of control before slamming into a nearby tree, with the SUV still precariously mounted on top of the Charger. The incident drew immediate attention from local residents and nearby park-goers, especially those at Martz Playground, who witnessed the chaotic scene.

Live footage from 7Mile Radio’s Marc D’andre, broadcast on Facebook, captured the dramatic aftermath of the crash. The clip showed emergency responders working to extricate an older woman, the lone occupant of the SUV, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital on a stretcher. Her current condition is currently unknown.

The two occupants of the black Charger were also taken to the hospital with injuries that have not yet been disclosed. Authorities have not released further information regarding the specifics of their injuries.

Local police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including reviewing the video footage and interviewing witnesses. Residents of the area are calling for heightened traffic enforcement at the intersection, known for its busy traffic patterns and history of similar incidents.

As the investigation progresses, officials are urging motorists to be cautious and adhere to traffic signals, especially in busy neighborhoods like Detroit’s East Side.
