Harper Woods Mayor Resigned after Allegations of Racist Comment

It was reported today, Harper Woods Mayor Kenneth Poynter has now resigned after allegations of a racist comment. Allegedly, Poynter was at a meeting when he expressed that he could understand how someone could become a white supremacist. Poynter received heat behind the allegations of that statement, according to reports. Jaye Hill, a community activist, was said to have overheard Poynter make the comment. Reportedly, there were several requests made for Poynter to resign after the alleged comment. Kenneth Poynter has been Mayor of Harper Woods since 1997. Both he and his wife have been under fire this year for alleged racist actions. His wife was recently accused of ripping up a ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign at a rally for Priscilla Slater. Priscilla Slater is a black woman that died in Harper Woods Police custody, and her family has not yet received answers or justice behind her death. A rally for justice was held at the Harper Woods Police station, and that is where Poynter’s wife was accused of ripping up the sign that belonged to one of the protesters. Soon after, a protest was then held at Mayor Poynter’s home, for the allegations of his wife ripping up the sign. It was said, the actions of former Mayor Poynter and his wife, do not reflect the actions or opinions of those of Harper Woods.
