24 yr old Mike Jones was allegedly squatting in a house in on Lawrence st. near Hamilton in Highland Park for a couple of months. Unbeknownst to him, the actual resident of the house was incarcerated at the time that he occupied the house. When the resident was released, he came to his home only to find someone in it. He confronted Mike and ordered him to vacate the premises.

Hours later the resident returned to the house to ensure that Mike had left, which he hadn’t. Heated words were exchanged that resulted into an altercation where shots were fired. Mike was struck in the back of the head but was still conscious and able to make it to his motorized bike where he attempted to ride his self to help. Only making it a few houses down the block, Mike lost Consciousness and fell off of the back of his bike and died in the middle of the street.

Ironically, his last posts on Facebook were mourning a friend who was killed 1 day earlier who was also 24

Mike was known around the area of 7Mile & Vandyke for doing odd jobs, Lawn, moving and cleaning services for the elderly and some local businesses in the neighborhood. Family members Ronice Nicole Sheppard & Keyy Hicks are organizing fundraiser benefits in his honor
