Detroit – Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday morning on Detroit’s east side, injuring two young children.
Neighbors suspect that the home involved is connected to a recent uptick in car thefts, with local residents believing that the house is linked to individuals believed to reside there who are involved in stealing vehicles.
According to Detroit police, the incident unfolded around 6:20 a.m. at a residence near McNichols Road and Van Dyke Avenue. Witnesses report that two individuals exited separate black trucks and fired shots at the home before fleeing the scene.
Two children, a 7-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were injured while sleeping upstairs. Their mother, father, and other children were present at the time. The children were transported to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover.
Police indicated that the number of shell casings recovered suggests the shooting was targeted. Neighbors express concern that the house involved may be linked to a local car theft ring, fueling speculation that the shooting may be connected to ongoing criminal activities in the area.
