Detroit Teen Charged in Double Shooting Detroit Man Charged as Accessory

Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department (DPD), the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Lorenza Bernard Lancaster, 17, and Kavonta Maurice Plummer, 20, in connection with the fatal shooting of Cherish Hinson, 18, and the non-fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man, all of Detroit. Defendant Lancaster will be waived and tried as an adult defendant.

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 2:47 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 15500 block of Sussex for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers observed both victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. Ms. Hinson succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendants and the 22-year-old victim escalated, and Defendant Lancaster produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Ms. Hinson and non-fatally wounding the 22-year-old victim. It is then alleged that both defendants fled from the scene on foot. Ms. Hinson was not involved in the altercation. An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants a short time later.

Lancaster has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm. Plummer has been charged with Accessory After the Fact, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

All suspects are presumed innocent pending further proceedings.
